What led you to pursue a career helping others?
I was raised in a family that sees service to community as central to life. Working to support others, especially the young people that will change the planet for the better, has always been a part of the way I have seen my role within my communities.
What education, skills, and expertise do you bring to your role?
I have over four years of experience working in early childhood education settings. I credit these years, and the two-year-olds with whom I worked, with teaching me far more than any formal education. Nothing teaches you patience, creative problem- solving, and how to work collaboratively towards a goal than being in a room with twelve incredible two-year-olds. Additionally, I worked in pre-K-college classrooms as an educator, classroom aide, and tutor, and have a Master’s of Education with a focus on learning and development from the University of Washington.
Who/what inspires you?
My parents and grandparents, Nikkita Oliver (a local educator and activist).
What’s your personal philosophy/approach toward the work you do?
Focus on building trust first. Learning and growth require vulnerability; people need to feel both safe and seen before they can learn or grow. I see myself as most able to support my clients and students when they know that I am on their team and that I am invested in them as whole people.
What is one small thing people can do to improve their lives and increase their happiness?
Take time to self-reflect every day. This can be through writing, through mindfulness, through conversations with loved ones, or any other healthy form of processing. You only need to carve out 5-10 min. of your day and can ultimately gain incredible insight into what you really want in life and how to get yourself there.
We provide coaching and therapy to help people manage a variety of cognitive and emotional conditions.
