A therapeutic group for adults with ADHD (California residents) who are navigating dating and relationships, led by Jessica Gutierrez, MA, LMFT and Gabrielle Anderson, PhD.

About the Group

This 8-week therapeutic support group is designed to provide individuals with ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) a supportive and educational space to explore the impact of ADHD on their relationships and develop effective strategies for managing symptoms.

  • Week 1: Understanding ADHD and its Impact on Relationships
    In this session, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of ADHD and how it affects their relationships. They will learn about the common challenges and dynamics that arise due to ADHD symptoms, such as impulsivity, inattention, and hyperactivity.

  • Week 2: Strategies for managing ADHD symptoms in dating and relationships
    This session will focus on practical strategies for managing ADHD symptoms within the context of dating and relationships. Participants will learn techniques to improve focus, organization, time management, and impulse control, enabling them to navigate relationship challenges more effectively.

  • Week 3: Building healthy communication skills
    Effective communication is vital for healthy relationships. Participants will explore techniques to enhance their communication skills, including active listening, assertiveness, and conflict resolution. They will also learn how to express their needs and concerns in a clear and constructive manner.

  • Week 4: Understanding attachment styles and their impact on relationships
    Attachment styles significantly influence how individuals form and maintain relationships. This session will help participants understand their own attachment style and its impact on their interactions with partners. They will explore strategies for cultivating secure attachments and addressing any attachment-related challenges.

  • Week 5: Boundaries and Self-Care
    Establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries is crucial for relationship well-being. Participants will learn how to identify and communicate their boundaries effectively, ensuring that their needs are respected. The session will also emphasize the importance of self-care practices to promote overall well-being.

  • Week 6: Managing Emotions
    ADHD can contribute to emotional dysregulation, which can impact relationships. Participants will explore techniques for managing their emotions, such as mindfulness, self-reflection, and coping strategies. They will learn to recognize and regulate their emotions to foster healthier and more stable relationships.

  • Week 7: Navigating intimacy in relationships
    Intimacy encompasses the emotional, physical, and sexual aspects of relationships. This session will address the challenges individuals with ADHD may face in cultivating and maintaining intimacy. Participants will gain insights into fostering emotional connection, enhancing sexual intimacy, and navigating relationship dynamics.

  • Week 8: Maintaining healthy relationships long-term
    In the final session, participants will focus on the long-term maintenance of healthy relationships. They will learn strategies for sustaining relationship satisfaction, managing ongoing challenges, and fostering growth and development within partnerships. The session will also provide resources and support for participants to continue their growth beyond the group.

Throughout the 8 weeks, participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences, gain support from peers who understand their struggles, and receive guidance from the facilitators. The group aims to empower individuals with ADHD to develop the necessary skills and insights to cultivate and sustain fulfilling and healthy relationships.

    Jessica Gutierrez, MA, LMFT

    About Jessica

    Jessica Gutierrez is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an ADHD Certified Clinical Service Provider. She has extensive experience gained from years of offering psychotherapy and executive function coaching using evidence-based practices.

    Jessica grew up in the Bay Area, where she attended college. She has her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration on Children, Marriage, and Family Therapy from Palo Alto University; and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy with a Minor in Psychology from San Jose State University. She is also a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional and Certified Mindfulness Informed Professional.

    Jessica aims to teach clients how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with distress, regulate emotions, improve relationships with others, and overall strengthen executive function skills. She helps her clients understand the nature of their challenges, find lasting solutions, and adopt effective coping mechanisms. She has worked with a broad range of clients, including adolescents, college students, adults, and families in different settings; schools, community mental health agencies, private practice settings, and inpatient facilities. In addition to supporting individuals struggling with ADHD, she has experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, LGBTQ+, learning differences, self-esteem struggles, relationship concerns, and work and academic-related stressors


    Gabrielle Anderson Ph.D.

    Gabrielle Anderson Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and a Full Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. She has over a decade of experience working with ADHD clients in partnership with Dr. Hallowell. Dr. Anderson is fluent in Spanish and offers services in both English and Spanish.

    Dr. Anderson completed her doctorate in counseling/clinical/school psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara where she was a U.S. Department of Education Bilingual Fellow and a University of California President’s Dissertation Year Fellow. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Bellevue Hospital Center-New York University School of Medicine in the Cross-Cultural Psychology Specialty Track/Bilingual Treatment Program.

    In addition to ADHD, Dr. Anderson offers expertise in the following areas: depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, school/learning problems, relationship issues, CBT for ADHD, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). Dr. Anderson uses a strength-based approach, drawing from her training in interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), humanistic, solution-focused, and systems frameworks. She works collaboratively with patients to help them realize their full potential in their career and education trajectories, personal lives, and relationships.
