What led you to pursue a career in helping others?

I originally wanted to be a firefighter but my parents were not too excited about that idea. This led me to become a nurse hoping to work with flight rescue or a fire department. Once I did my psychiatric rotation in nursing school, it became very apparent that I wanted to become a psychiatric nurse.

What education, skills and expertise do you bring to your role?

Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, Master’s of Science in Nursing, over a decade of experience working various psych positions at Seattle Children’s Hospital (Charge nurse of psych unit, mental health evaluator in the emergency department, case management for the consult team, behavior support nurse). Lots of experience working with aggression management.

Who/what inspires you?

I’m inspired most by close friends who always seem to have the time and energy to help out those around them.

What’s your personal philosophy/approach toward the work you do?

Everyone deserves care. You don’t know what people have or are going through so they should be treated with respect.

What is one small thing people can do to increase their happiness?

Stop worrying about if you are ‘good’ at things you enjoy. Music, art, sports, dance and all other hobbies are meant to be fun and relaxing, no need to compare yourself to others if it makes you happy.
