What led you to pursue a career helping others?

As a high school student, I volunteered in the special education department and at an agency for special needs children. I love helping and teaching others.

What education, skills, and expertise do you bring to your role?

I worked for several years teaching high schoolers with learning disabilities and behavior disorders. After completing my Master’s in School Counseling I worked as a high school guidance counselor and then a counselor at an early intervention program.

My passion for supporting parents began supporting parents in early education and moved on to training at the Parent Coaching Institute. I am passionate about helping parents create meaningful change in their families. I have just released a book, written with two coaching colleagues, Real-Time Parenting: Choose Your Action Steps for the Present Moment. This guide shares research, stories, and ten practical tools to help parents create positive change in their daily interactions.

Who/what inspires you?

Parents who are striving to help their children and improve their relationships. Teachers, therapists, and coaches who work to support families. Leaders in the field who teach and guide others—Brene Brown, Marc Brackett, Dan Siegel, Carol Dweck, and Ned Hallowell to name a few!

What’s your personal philosophy/approach toward the work you do?

I believe in a strengths-based approach—helping parents see the strengths in their children and in themselves. I believe in listening to parents and collaborating with them so that they feel empowered to create positive change. I believe that with a positive mindset, encouraging language, and intentional response, powerful transformation can occur.

What is one small thing people can do to improve their lives and increase their happiness?

Practice self-care—find what helps to recharge your batteries and be intentional about adding this to your daily or weekly routine.
