What led you to pursue a career helping others?

I think my own personal journey that included challenges along the way was a huge influential factor in my pursuit of a career helping others. Enlisting the help of a personal therapist was transformational in all aspects of my life. My hope is that I can be a conduit for others to work towards becoming the best version of themselves within the systems they interact with on a daily basis.

What education, skills, and expertise do you bring to your role?

My grandfather once said to me “you will be happy when you are in a position that allows you to connect with others”. Amazing to think that he could see my strengths before I was aware of them. A career in therapy is actually what I call my “second life”. Before embarking on this journey I was in the sporting world and actually obtained a Masters degree in Sports Management. I grew in many ways during this career as far as how I connect with others. The ability to work through challenges towards shared goals relates very closely to a lot of the world of therapy. I chose to enroll in school at Seattle University and obtained my Masters degree in Couples and Family Therapy. I really enjoyed bringing in a myriad of skills from my previous career as well as developing new skills within a family systems lens. Throughout this journey I was ,and still am challenged to do a lot of self-work about who I am. I feel honored to be able to journey with people through life joys and challenges.

What’s your personal philosophy/approach toward the work you do?

I work from an experiential, solution-oriented approach. I believe in the experience of the therapeutic setting to provide space for client growth. My philosophy is rooted in the notion that clients hold the keys to obtain their desired outcomes. The therapeutic setting acts as a conduit for clients to utilize existing strengths and resources to navigate life’s ups and downs.

What is one small thing people can do to improve their lives and increase their happiness?

I have a little trade secret that I will let you in on. Superhero poses in the mirror. 3 superhero poses in the mirror on a daily basis. But not a half-hearted attempt, a full immersion in three superhero poses. Hold each one for 5 seconds and tense all of the muscles in your body as hard as you can. Allow yourself to start the day with the right mentality.
