Meet Our Team - Micah Price

Micah Price, MSW, LSWAIC

Position at the Hallowell Todaro ADHD Center:

Coach/Therapist

How long have you been working at the Hallowell Todaro ADHD center?

Just over two years.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Westminster, Colorado, which is about 20 minutes northwest of Denver.

What are your favorite books / TV shows / movies?

I’m not a huge TV and movie person, but my two favorite authors are Chaim Potok and Jonathan Kozol. Some of my favorite books are "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini, "Neither Wolf Nor Dog" by Kent Nerburn, and "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls.

What is your favorite sport and/or sports team?

My favorite sport is soccer, but I also love to hike and kayak.

Complete the following sentences:

hanging out with my dog, cooking, or doing a fun activity outside.

When I want to de-stress, I...

spend time with my dog outside or take a nap.

My favorite time of year is...

Spring.

My favorite thing to cook is...

anything that I can improvise. I enjoy recipes, but it’s really fun to make things up as I go.

The best gift I ever received was...

the privilege to pursue my passion of social work.

If I could travel anywhere in the world, I’d go to...

Tanzania. I spent two months there a few years ago and have missed it ever since leaving.

What led you to pursue a career helping others?

I have been drawn to the field of social work for as long as I can remember. I love connecting with people, learning their stories, and being a witness to their successes—this field allows me to do so.

What education, skills and expertise do you bring to your role?

I have a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Metropolitan State University of Denver and a Master of Social Work from University of Washington. I have worked in a wide range of roles from after-school program coordinator and one-on-one para-educator to milieu staff at residential facilities and care coordinator at a middle school. I’m particularly interested in and/or have experience with ADHD, accommodation planning, gender identity and sexual orientation, anxiety, depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and systems involvement (child welfare, juvenile justice, etc.).

Who/what inspires you?

My clients—their motivation, talent, strength, and willingness to share their pursuit of change—inspire me. My wonderful colleagues at the Hallowell Todaro Center also inspire me.

What’s your personal philosophy/approach toward the work you do?

My general philosophy is that clients are experts of themselves. My role is to help them identify and utilize their strengths on their journey. I also believe in the importance of involving systems—family and friends, schools, other providers, etc.—to facilitate success in the goals my clients have identified. Additionally, my approach involves Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, humanistic therapy, and narrative therapy.

What is one small thing people can do to improve their lives and increase their happiness?

I think it’s important for people of all ages to have people (and animals!) they can connect with in times of pride and joy or stress and sadness. As research expands, so does the evidence that positive relationships are key to happiness and health.
