What led you to pursue a career helping others?

I’ve always enjoyed helping others and I believe that practically every career contributes to our societal well being. The reason I chose to pursue a career in education is because I believe that education empowers us to make thoughtful choices. While it can be daunting to recognize that our actions and inactions impact the world regardless of our intentions, it can also be inspiring. If you affect the world even when you’re unaware of how you affect it, imagine the possibilities if you knew. What legacy would you choose to leave behind?

What education, skills and expertise do you bring to your role?

I received my Masters in Education from the University of Washington with a dual certification in General Education K-8 and Special Education K-12. I’ve taught children and adolescents with a wide range of behavioral, emotional, and cognitive conditions across various settings. My experiences include working as a lead counselor in an intensive therapeutic day camp for children with ADHD and Autism, teaching a K-2 self-contained class with inclusion opportunities at a public school, and teaching 1:1 classes and small groups in multiple subjects across grade levels at a non-profit private academy.

Who/what inspires you?

Nature. Our natural world inspires me because of its fragile balance and beauty. I’m particularly fascinated by clouds when I see contrasts between shadows and light. I’m mesmerized by the movement of water and the sound of rain. I often take moments to notice interesting things. For example, right now, I notice the ivy across the street because it’s crawled up some mailboxes, almost to the point where it’s consumed it.

What’s your personal philosophy/approach toward the work you do?

“900 years of time and space, and I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t important.” - Dr. Who

This quote speaks to my philosophy because I believe that every person has inherent value. I also believe that every individual has the potential to contribute towards the well-being of others and that a person’s potential is maximized when we recognize strengths, provide the right supports, define areas for growth, and offer opportunities to practice.
