What led you to pursue a career helping others?
I wonder if genetics is somewhat involved since my mother was a social worker:-). I initially was an economics major in college. Over 25 years ago I interviewed for a job doing administrative work at a preschool. When they asked if I would be comfortable subbing in the preschool if needed, I said no. They loved my honesty and hired me. Six months later I was running the preschool. I found myself drawn to helping the children with social and emotional struggles and that began my journey into the field of helping others.
What education, skills, and expertise do you bring to your role?
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Washington. I have over 25 years of experience working in multiple clinical settings. I spent 21 years working with children, adolescents and parents in the Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Department at Seattle Children’s Hospital in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I served as a therapist at Ryther Child Center’s Outpatient Clinic providing individual and group therapy for children, adolescents and parents from 2018-2021. I have professional training in a variety of evidenced-based modalities including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT).
Who/what inspires you?
I am inspired by people who overcome challenges whether they are physical, emotional, psycho social, or social justice related. Hearing other people’s stories and how they continued on in the face of adversity inspires me.
What’s your personal philosophy/approach toward the work you do?
I view the therapeutic process as a collaborative one, where we create and define goals, moving towards them together reviewing, revising, and refining during the course of our journey. I seek to create an environment that nurtures one's sense of connectedness, compassion for self and fosters resilience. My aim as a therapist is to provide a safe space for clients to explore areas of growth and change. I utilize an integrative therapeutic approach to meet the individual needs of each person. I work from a strength-based, relational, person-centered perspective to help clients reach their goals and live a fulfilling life.
What is one small thing people can do to improve their lives and increase their happiness?
Cut themselves some slack. Be kind to oneself and see mistakes/challenges as opportunities for growth and learning.
We provide a range of support for people with ADHD.
