About the Group
If you are a parent of an adult child with ADHD who is struggling to become independent, this support group is for you. Are you sensing that your relationship with your child is suffering because you are spending too much time attending to their challenging behaviors? Are you struggling with frequent tantrums, difficulty transitioning from activities, feeling a loss with house rules/consequences? This group can help turnaround these negative interaction cycles and help put you and your child on a path to getting higher compliance from your child and feeling more successful in handling their challenging behaviors. The group will be facilitated by a master family therapist with decades of experience helping families with adult children struggling to leave the nest.

October 17, Introduction: Get to know group members, tell your story with no pressure nor judgment.
October 24, Share: Share what you know about the struggles of launching adult children with ADHD into independence. How does the ADHD child affect each family member?
October 31, Executive Functioning: Let’s talk about how ADHD affects executive functioning, and navigating adult responsibilities like planning, organization, time management, and impulse control.
November 7, Aspiration: Let’s share your aspirations and expectations for your adult child. Share your feelings of frustration, isolation, shame, and guilt when dealing with setbacks and lack of progress. commit to reaching out to those who understand. Do not isolate yourselves.
November 14, Resilience: You are resilient. Share the strengths you see in one another. Remember progress may be slow, have patience, understanding, love and support.

Cynthia Stern, LCSW
Cynthia Stern has over 30 years of experience in psychotherapy and strategic coaching, specializing in family systems and relationship work. At Hallowell Todaro, she focuses on adults, couples, and families using a strengths-based approach and her expertise in ADHD. Known as a relationship consultant, Cynthia aids clients in understanding and addressing their challenges, employing tools like genogram mapping and various strategic interventions. Her active, direct, and practical method includes reframing and paradoxical techniques. Passionate about education, Cynthia also mentors colleagues and trains health practitioners to handle complex human conditions effectively.
