What led you to pursue a career helping others?

I’ve always been passionate about helping others, which is why I started my career as an inner-city teacher in Philadelphia. I quickly learned that the emotional barriers that the students were facing were significantly impacting their academic performance and thus decided to pursue a masters degree in clinical mental health, where I felt I could make a bigger impact.

What education, skills and expertise do you bring to your role?

I come to the center with a variety of experiences including teaching, coaching and clinical mental health counseling. I’ve focused my work on the development of emotional and academic confidence, and have had significant success in identifying and reducing barriers that often prevent clients from reaching those goals.

Who/what inspires you?

My clients inspire me with their resilience and courage. I truly feel honored to have the opportunity to journey with them as they navigate through life’s transitions.

What’s your personal philosophy/approach toward the work you do?

At the core, I believe people are inherently resilient and have the desire to grow and evolve. Through my work with clients I have seen the remarkable benefits that come from dedicating time and energy to self-awareness, reflection and growth. Part of this success often includes collaboratively developing individualized strategies and systems that can be integrated in to day to day life.

What is one small thing people can do to improve their lives and increase their happiness?

A lot of research has come out showing the biological role that gratitude plays on overall mental health. I like to recommend starting your day with drinking a tall glass of water while identifying 3 things you are grateful for. The tall glass of water (which you can put on your nightstand the night before) serves as a visual cue, and the gratitude reflections help to shift gears and start your morning off on a positive note.
